Between and below them is a wide expanse of near-black volcanic ground, and what those pieces carry instead of colour are the figure pieces: birds, a hot-air balloon, a moon, cut into the dark and traceable by their outlines even where the image gives nothing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBuilders work the sky and the water first, which is quick, then close the dark third from the figures outward. Held to a lamp, faint variations in the black do show, and that is how the last plain pieces get placed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eWhere to start\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe hill silhouette.
