About this product

Counting Rods, Developmental 900385 IGROTECO by the manufacturer Igroteco The counting rods using the Cuisenaire method (56 pieces + 10 double-sided cards with exercises) are a versatile educational material for developing maths skills in children. They are called by various names: a set of counting rods, "numbers in colour", "coloured rods", "coloured numbers". This game includes 56 wooden rods in 10 different colours with a 10x10 mm cross-section, each having a distinct length and colour. Rods of the same length are the same colour. The longer a rod, the greater its numerical value - the smallest rod ("unit"), 10 mm long, represents the number 1; each following rod is 10 mm longer and represents the next ordinal number: the pink rod represents the number 2 (20 mm), the blue rod the number 3 (30 mm), and so on. The game also includes 10 double-sided coloured cards with exercises at three difficulty levels. The cards measure 10x10 cm. Thanks to the counting rods, the child quickly and interactively understands the basic mathematical principles:
  • the concept of number and its composition
  • numerical sequence
  • forward and reverse counting
  • the notions of magnitude: larger, smaller, equal, higher, lower, longer, shorter
  • orientation on a plane, right, left
  • addition and subtraction with the rods
  • help with learning the multiplication table
  • a visual demonstration of dividing a whole into two parts.
The counting rods are designed for playing and learning with children aged 3 to 8 at home and in preschool institutions. Materials: wood, certified paints, cardboard.
