About this product
A garden inside the wings
The butterfly is shown open, both wings flat, and the scene inside them is not a landscape but a garden: leaves cut through the layers, flowers as separate small pieces that stand raised above the surface – and, hiding among them, dragonflies and a snail in each lower corner.
It is the only symmetrical design in the range, and the only one where the two halves have to match.
Why the symmetry is the challenge
Every other kit here can be painted freely, because there is nothing to compare a mistake against. This one has a mirror image built in, and a flower painted red on the left wing will look wrong in yellow on the right.
Work both wings in parallel, one colour at a time across the pair, rather than finishing one side and then starting the other.
Assembly
Five layers plus the loose flowers, glued in order – and painted flat first, which matters more here than anywhere: the raised florets are far easier to colour before they are fixed in place. The body sits at the front as a raised spine down the centre, and painting it a single strong colour is what holds the two wings together visually.
At 16 × 11 cm the finished piece stands upright on the lower edge of the wings.
