About this product
Antlers that rise out of the frame
The stag stands facing left, and the antlers are cut as the topmost layer, projecting above the line of the landscape behind. They are the most delicate-looking part of any kit in this range and the reason this one reads as the most elegant of the ten.
Inside the body sits a forest – conifers, a treeline, an eagle in the sky – and standing in the meadow at the centre, a second stag. The deer carries its own kind inside it, which is the detail people notice last and remember first.
The one that is square
At 13 × 13 cm this is the only kit with equal height and width, which makes it the easiest to place – it sits comfortably on a narrow shelf where a wider design overhangs.
Six layers, glued in order.
Painting the antlers
Leave them until last. They are the thinnest sections in the piece and the easiest to knock while working on the body, and because they sit at the front they will pick up any stray colour from the layers behind.
Bare wood works well for them. The grain reads as texture at that scale.
As with the whole range: paint the layers flat first, then glue. The inner stag and the treeline sit deep in the stack.
