About this product
The wolf howls at the moon inside itself
The wolf stands with its muzzle raised, and the design puts the full moon exactly where it is howling – inside its own silhouette, near the tip of the muzzle. Below the moon the layers build the rest of the night: a mountain, red ridges in front of it, pines scattered down into a meadow.
The design reads as a wolf from a distance and as a landscape from close up, which is the trick the whole range is built on, and the wolf does it best.
The layers do the work
Six layers, glued in order, with the fur cut as feathered edges around the whole outline. Because the pines and the moon are cut as shapes rather than drawn, they hold their form regardless of how carefully they are painted.
That makes this a forgiving kit. A rough paint job still produces recognisable pines and a recognisable moon.
Colour
Green and blue carry this one, with white for the snow dots and the ridge tops. The wolf's own body can be left as bare wood, painted grey, or painted into the landscape entirely – the last is what our example shows, and it is the harder choice.
Paint the layers flat first, then glue: the moon and the mountain sit deep in the stack. Keep paint off the mating faces so the glue stick grips.
