Glue and varnish in one coat

A liquid puzzle glue that does two jobs at once: it runs into the joints between the pieces and holds them, and it dries as a clear film over the face that protects the surface. There is no separate sealing step.

Once dry the film is transparent and slightly glossy, which deepens the colours rather than dulling them, and it protects the face from water and scratches – the claim is printed on the bottle.

The nozzle is the part that matters

The bottle has a fine precision tip rather than a wide opening. That is what makes it usable on an irregular board: glue can be laid along a joint or into a recess a drop at a time, instead of being poured across the surface and spread with a card.

On our silhouette puzzles, where the outline is the animal itself and there is no border to work to, that control is the difference between a sealed puzzle and a mess at the edges.

How to use it

Assemble the puzzle on a flat surface and leave it in place. Work in thin coats rather than flooding the board, following the joints first and then covering the face. Let each coat dry before adding another; two thin coats hold better than one thick one and are far less likely to pool.

While the glue is wet, tools and fingers clean up with warm soapy water.

What it works on

Cardboard, wood and MDF. It is made by Cléopâtre, a French adhesives manufacturer, and produced in France – the flag is on the label.

Before you commit

Gluing is permanent. A sealed puzzle cannot be taken apart and rebuilt, which is worth thinking about with our designs, since many people assemble the same board several times before deciding to keep it.

If the puzzle is going on a wall, glue it. If it is going back in the box, leave it alone.
