About this product

A treeline across the foot of the board

Conifers engraved in silhouette along the bottom edge of a warm brown cover, a long low line of hills and cloud drawn across the top left, two small clouds floating between, and the rest of the board left as open sky. The drawing occupies perhaps a third of the surface.

It is a landscape rather than a motif, and the composition is horizontal where every other cover in the range is centred or vertical.

Why the empty space matters

Leaving the upper board bare gives the treeline somewhere to sit. A forest engraved across the whole cover would be texture; this one is a horizon, and the difference is the space above it. It is the notebook to take walking or to keep for the cabin, and the date line at the top of every page makes it a log without any effort.

How it is built

A one-piece birch cover scored along the spine with a row of laser cuts so that it bends like a hinge; closed, it reads as a solid block of wood. Inside, a four-ring mechanism holds the block between black card leaves: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.

Paper and format

100 lined sheets of 80 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week; pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. A5, about 18.5 × 22 cm closed and 4 cm thick, about 590 g.
