About this product

Three horses at full stride

A dark brown board with three horses galloping across it to the left, lasered out of the stain so that they stand pale against the dark wood, the detail of manes and legs drawn back into them in fine dark line, a strip of pale ground under their hooves. The drawing sits in the upper half of the board and leaves the lower half plain.

It is the only cover in the range that shows motion. Everything else here is a portrait, a symbol or a scene at rest.

Leather spine, strap and stud

Two birch boards joined by a black leather strip riveted along the edge, six brass rivets on the front, and a leather strap that closes across the front edge on a brass stud. Against the dark board the black leather and the brass sit close in tone, so the binding reads as part of the object rather than as a fixing on it. Inside, a four-ring mechanism holds the block between black card leaves: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.

Who it suits

Riders and owners first, and anyone who wants the one cover in the range with something happening on it. It closes on a stud, so it goes in a bag or a tack-room shelf without opening.

Paper and format

100 lined sheets of 80 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week; pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. A5, about 18.5 × 22 cm closed and 4 cm thick, about 640 g.
