About this product
An owl on four rings
Weathered grey birch with an owl engraved facing forward, its feathers drawn as rows of repeating shapes – scales, arcs, dots – rather than as plumage, perched on a branch across the lower cover. The word SKETCHBOOK and the maker's mark are engraved above it.
The binding is exposed: two birch boards and four dark rings through the left edge, no spine at all.
Why exposed rings
Two boards on rings is the plainest build in the range. There is nothing between the boards but the block, so the book opens flatter than any hinged cover and folds right back on itself, and a sheet lifts out with no spine in the way. It is the working sketchbook of the range rather than the keepsake.
Four rings rather than two hold the block along more of its edge, so a full block hangs straight and a page turns without twisting on its holes.
The same owl, another binding
The owl also comes as the Owl leather-bound wooden notebook: lined pages, a riveted leather spine and a strap, for the desk rather than the bag.
Paper and format
50 blank sheets of 80 g/m² drawing paper – the lightest paper in the range, for pencil, ink and marker rather than washes. A5, about 500 g. When the block is full, open the rings and fit a new one; the boards carry on.
