About this product

Fifteen beads on three rods

A frame with three horizontal rods, five beads on each – the 3×5 of the name – one rod red, one yellow, one blue. Beads slide from one side to the other, and that is the whole mechanism.

The abacus is one of the oldest counting tools still in use, and nothing has replaced what it does for a small child: it turns a number into something you can move with your hand.

Why physical counting comes first

A child learns that five is five by moving five things, not by seeing the symbol. Beads on a rod make quantity visible and reversible – push three across, push one back, and the difference is in front of them rather than in their head.

Marked from two, which is when counting aloud usually starts.

What it is

Frame and fifteen painted beads of 3 cm diameter, weighing 300 g in a 21 × 17 × 6 cm box. The beads are large enough not to be a hazard and heavy enough to stay where they are put.
