About this product
An owl looking straight out
A frontal owl worked in dense ornament on a pale olive-grey board: a crown of leaf shapes on the head, wide eyes ringed like targets under drawn lashes, wings spread at the sides in rows of scallops, a chain and pendant hanging on the chest, and a lace-edged medallion for the belly. It fills most of the cover and is the densest engraving in the range.
The board sits between the grey of the Dream Catcher and the warm browns, pale enough to keep the ornament legible without the drawing going flat.
Symmetry, and how it reads across a desk
The design is mirrored down the centre and the eyes sit high on the board, so the cover holds a gaze from across a table. That is the one thing to know before buying it as a gift: it is not a discreet notebook.
Owls, and what people mean by them
The reading has always been split. The Greeks gave the owl to Athena, for patient watchfulness at night; the Romans took its call as an ill omen, and country folklore across Europe kept that for centuries. Today the wise owl is the reading most people bring to it, and this drawing, ornamental rather than eerie, sides with Athena.
How it is built
The cover is a single sheet of birch plywood, scored along the spine with a row of laser cuts so that it bends like a hinge; closed, the notebook reads as one solid block of wood. Inside, a four-ring mechanism is screwed to the cover – the two screw heads show on the back, beside our CREATIF mark – and holds the block between black card leaves. The rings open: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.
Paper and format
100 lined sheets of 90 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week. It takes pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. 18.5 × 22 × 4 cm closed, a little over half a kilo.
