About this product
Blossom in one corner, and the rest left alone
Flowering branches engraved in fine line across the lower right corner of a warm brown board – open five-petal blossom, buds and leaves – running along the bottom edge from the centre and up the right edge to about half height. The rest of the cover is bare stained birch with the grain running through it.
That restraint is the design. Most covers in this range fill the board; this one uses the wood itself as most of the picture.
The grain does half the work
Because so much of the cover is left plain, the figure in the plywood matters more here than on the busier designs. No two sheets are alike, and the notebook you receive will have its own pattern of grain behind the blossom.
What it suits
Anything not tied to a theme. Where the Dragon and the Travel covers announce a subject, this one carries none, which makes it the notebook to buy when the writing is simply writing: a diary, a commonplace book, notes that have not decided what they are yet. The date line at the top of each page is there if the diary wins.
How it is built
The cover is a single sheet of birch plywood, scored along the spine with a row of laser cuts so that it bends like a hinge; closed, the notebook reads as one solid block of wood. Inside, a four-ring mechanism is screwed to the cover – the two screw heads show on the back, beside our CREATIF mark – and holds the block between black card leaves. The rings open: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.
Paper and format
100 lined sheets of 90 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week. It takes pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. 18.5 × 22 × 4 cm closed, a little over half a kilo.
