A cellar drawn inside a bottle

The silhouette of a wine bottle filled with dozens of small bottles, glasses and goblets, engraved into pale unstained birch with VIN above it. On bare wood the fine detail carries better than on a stained board: every small bottle and glass in the stack stays distinct.

It is the most detailed engraving in this range, and the pale version is where you actually see all of it.

Bare wood, and why it suits this one

A drawing this busy would fight a dark stain. On birch it has room, and the box reads as one clear image rather than a texture. The light boxes have no rope handle; the version on warm brown stained wood, with the rope, is the dark Bottle box.

It takes paint

Unstained birch accepts acrylic and dye, so the box can be coloured at home. Picking out the small bottles one by one is slow work and a good rainy afternoon.

How it opens and what comes with it

Hook a finger in the hole at the top of the front panel and lift: the panel slides up out of grooves in the side panels, the bottle lifts out, and the panel slides back down to close the box again. A flat oval glass holder comes with it: set the hole over the neck of the bottle and it carries two glasses by their stems.

Size and what fits

10.5 × 10.5 × 33.5 cm, about 375 g empty, cut for one standard 75 cl bottle of still wine. The inside is bare wood, no padding, and the bottle stands upright in it.
