About this product

Forty-five planes on pins

White aircraft folded like paper darts, 2.8 cm long, mounted on steel points. They mark a route rather than a place: a line of planes across an ocean reads as a flight, where a row of flags reads as a list.

Forty-five is enough to trace several journeys across a large map, with spares for the trips you have not taken yet.

What they do that flags do not

A flag says you were somewhere. A plane says how you got there. Used together the map gains a second layer: destinations in flags, connections in aircraft, and the empty ocean between them stops being empty.

They also work where flags cannot. There is no flag for a stopover, a long-haul route or a place you flew over.

The white is deliberate

Plain white against a stained wooden map is the highest contrast available without introducing another colour. On the Dark and Graphite finishes they read from across a room; on the pale Light and Amber they are subtler and closer to relief than to marking.

What it is

Forty-five aircraft on steel pins, supplied in a clear box. They push into plywood by hand and can be removed and repositioned as routes change.
