About this product

A bear worked like a carpet

The face is frontal, crowned by two big round ears, and every centimetre is covered in tight scrollwork – rust, crimson, magenta, violet and gold over a dark ground, drawn like a woven carpet rather than like fur. It is as dense a pattern as we print on any board.

Below the muzzle hangs a pendant in dark green and gold, worked like a piece of metalwork rather than like an animal. It is the one part of the design that is not the bear.

Where the difficulty concentrates

The scrollwork repeats in scale though not in shape, and the colours swirl through each other everywhere, so sorting by colour puts a piece in roughly the right region and no further.

The anchors are shapes, not colours. The two round ears are the outline's only circles and their pieces are unmistakable; the pendant is the only element unlike everything around it. Ears first, pendant second, and the head is bounded top and bottom.

A menagerie inside the head

Figural pieces are cut through the face: a llama, a snake, a snail, a hare, a boar, birds, smaller bears. They come out leaving clean silhouettes in the pattern, and several are small enough to pass for ordinary pieces until turned over.

The set is deliberately mixed rather than tied to a habitat, which is unusual here – our cat holds cats and our fox holds forest.

On the wall

From across a room the density reads as a rich mass rather than a shape, so it wants a pale wall and decent light to open up. Up close is where it pays: the closer you stand, the more there is.

Our craftsmanship

Made by our family, piece by piece

Every creatifwood puzzle starts as a sheet of birch plywood in our family workshop. We laser-cut every piece into its own shape – no two are alike – check each set by hand, and pack it in a gift-ready box. No production lines, no shortcuts – just a small family that loves working with wood, and takes it personally that your puzzle brings people together around the table.
