Vines on bare birch

The same grape bunches, vine leaves and tendrils as our grey box, engraved in the top-right and bottom-left corners of the front panel with VIN between them, cut into pale unstained birch plywood. Nothing is coloured: the burnt brown line of the engraving is the only mark on the wood.

On pale birch a fine engraving carries further than on a dark board, so this is the version where every tendril reads.

Informal by design

Bare wood reads as rustic rather than finished. That suits a bottle brought to a dinner, a summer table, a gift between friends: occasions where a dark stained box would be more ceremony than the moment needs. There is no rope handle on the light boxes; the box is carried in the hand or in a bag. The stained version with the rope is the grey Grape box.

It also takes paint

Unstained birch takes acrylic paint, wood stain and dye, so the box can be coloured, initialled or decorated at home in a way the stained boxes cannot. A name painted along the side turns it into the personalised box we do not otherwise make.

How it opens and what comes with it

Hook a finger in the hole at the top of the front panel and lift: the panel slides up out of grooves in the side panels, the bottle lifts out, and the panel slides back down to close the box again. A flat oval glass holder comes with it: set the hole over the neck of the bottle and it carries two glasses by their stems.

Size and what fits

10.5 × 10.5 × 33.5 cm, about 375 g empty, cut for one standard 75 cl bottle of still wine. The inside is bare wood, no padding, and the bottle stands upright in it.
