About this product
A crescent hung with charms
Deep grey-brown birch with a crescent moon engraved left of centre, opening to the right, its face textured and its rim decorated like a band of jewellery. To the right of it a large eight-pointed star and a scatter of small ones; from its lower horn hang chains and garlands of charms – crystals, a pendant, a small eye, a cut gem at the very bottom.
The crescent is the burnt part. It is engraved darker than the wood around it, a dark moon on a dark sky, and the stars and chains around it are drawn in fine line. The word SKETCHBOOK is engraved top left.
Where the design sits
Moon left of centre, stars up and to the right, charms trailing below: the design runs the full height of the cover on a slight diagonal, which gives it a direction a centred motif would not have.
How it is built
A one-piece birch cover scored along the spine so that it bends like a hinge, with the block on rings inside: a page lies flat, a finished drawing lifts out, and a new block goes in when this one is full. The same crescent with lined pages is the Moon wooden notebook.
Paper and format
50 blank sheets of 90 g/m² drawing paper, for pencil, ink and marker rather than washes. A5, about 580 g.
