About this product
A dragon in flight
Warm honey birch with a dragon engraved in profile, head to the left, wings spread wide, smoke curling from its jaws, and the tail looping once below the body before it ends in a barb. It occupies the middle of the board and leaves the corners bare.
It is the boldest cover in the range and the one that reads from furthest away.
Hatching, not outline
The dragon is drawn the way an engraver draws: scales as rows of short curved strokes, wing membranes hatched between the bones, smoke as a few loose curls. Dense line rather than solid burnt areas, which is why it reads as a pen drawing burnt into the wood rather than as a print.
What goes inside
A dragon on a cover is a statement of intent about the contents: the notebook for something you mean to invent in – a story, a world, a game, a project that does not exist yet. The date line at the top of every page is there for when the invention turns into a log. The same dragon with blank watercolour paper is the Dragon sketchbook, for the version that gets drawn.
How it is built
The cover is a single sheet of birch plywood, scored along the spine with a row of laser cuts so that it bends like a hinge; closed, the notebook reads as one solid block of wood. Inside, a four-ring mechanism is screwed to the cover – the two screw heads show on the back, beside our CREATIF mark – and holds the block between black card leaves. The rings open: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.
Paper and format
100 lined sheets of 90 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week. It takes pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. 18.5 × 22 × 4 cm closed, a little over half a kilo.
