About this product

A poured glass on the darkest wood in the range

A stemmed wine glass drawn in outline, with the wine falling into it from a bottle neck at the top right of the panel, and the word VIN below. The plywood is stained a deep grey-brown, close to black, and the engraving burns darker still, so the drawing reads as a black line on dark wood rather than a pale one.

Of the three motifs this is the most graphic: no leaves, no texture, one glass and the wine going in.

The dark box as wrapping

Pale wood reads as rustic and informal. This one does not. If the bottle inside is a serious one, or the occasion is, the dark box carries that in a way bare birch cannot. It is the box to choose when paper round the bottle would have felt like not enough. The same drawing on pale birch, without the rope, is the light Glass box.

How it opens and what comes with it

Hook a finger in the hole at the top of the front panel and lift: the panel slides up out of grooves in the side panels, the bottle lifts out, and the panel slides back down to close the box again. A jute rope handle is threaded through the top. A flat oval glass holder comes with it: set the hole over the neck of the bottle and it carries two glasses by their stems.

Size and what fits

10.5 × 10.5 × 33.5 cm, a little under 400 g empty, cut for one standard 75 cl bottle of still wine. The inside is bare wood, no padding, and the bottle stands upright in it.
