2D Wooden World Map Light
Bare birch, flat and pale – made for a dark wall, where it reads like a drawing
Choosing your map size
Every map is supplied as separate wooden pieces that you arrange on the wall yourself, so the size below is the space the finished map will occupy – not a box or a frame. Measure your wall first, then leave around 20 cm of clear space on each side so the map has room to breathe.
3D wooden world maps
Layered maps: continents stand proud of the wall and cast a real shadow.

Framed panels
Mounted on a solid backing panel, ready to hang. No assembly, single piece.
| Model | Size | Dimensions | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| World map, Multicolor | S | 90 × 60 cm | 4.0 kg |
| World map, Multicolor | M | 110 × 80 cm | 5.0 kg |
| World map, Graphite | M | 110 × 80 cm | 5.0 kg |
| France wine map | — | 65 × 65 cm | 3.5 kg |
| Italy wine map | — | 58 × 65 cm | 3.0 kg |
Framed panels arrive assembled and are noticeably heavier than the piece-by-piece maps, since they include the backing panel.
Three steps before you order
- Measure the free wall. Width and height of the clear area, ignoring furniture that reaches less than 20 cm up the wall.
- Subtract the breathing room. Take off roughly 20 cm from each side. What remains is the largest map that will look comfortable there.
- Check the shape. All our world maps are wider than they are tall, roughly 3:2. A tall narrow wall will suit a smaller size than its height suggests.
Still unsure? Mark the outline on your wall with masking tape before ordering – it takes two minutes and settles the question.
Frequently asked
Is the size the map itself or the packaging?
The map. Boxes are much smaller, since the map ships as separate pieces.
Between two sizes – which should I take?
The larger one. The most common regret we hear is a map that looks smaller on the wall than it did in the box.
What if my wall is textured or painted?
The supplied tape holds on most smooth and lightly textured surfaces. On heavily textured walls, rough plaster or fresh paint (under three weeks old), the bond is weaker – write to us before ordering and we'll advise.
How much does it weigh on the wall?
Between 0.36 kg and 4.5 kg depending on size, spread across many separate pieces, so no single point carries much load. Framed panels are heavier and hang as one piece.

About this product
Bare birch, and it needs a dark wall
Light is the colour of the birch itself, the palest map we make, cut from a single 4 mm sheet. On navy, charcoal, forest green or exposed brick the continents read instantly and the engraving holds from across a room.
On a white wall it will not. There is no shadow on a flat map to separate pale wood from a pale surface, and this is the finish where that matters most. If the wall is white, choose Dark or Multicolor instead.
The grain is the only variation
Every country is the same tone as its neighbour, so nothing separates them but the engraved border. What varies instead is the birch itself: the grain runs differently through each piece, and on a dark wall that reads as texture across the whole map. It is the most material of our finishes; the map announces what it is made of before what it depicts.
Flat, and light
4 mm and a single layer, so it barely projects from the wall and is the lightest world map in the range to handle. Beside a door or along a corridor it is out of the way of shoulders and coats, which the relief version is not.
The figures
A set of small wooden figures comes with the map, to place where you like: the Statue of Liberty on the American coast and Christ the Redeemer on Brazil, the Eiffel Tower on Paris, the pyramids on Egypt, the Taj Mahal on India, a pagoda on China, the Sydney Opera House on Australia, an elephant on Africa, a penguin on Antarctica, and a ship, a plane, a whale, an anchor and a compass for the oceans. On the pale wood they read as small dark silhouettes, and they are usually the first thing a visitor touches.
Engraving on bare wood
Country names, borders, capitals and major cities, US states, Canadian provinces and Australian states, engraved individually. The laser burns darker than the surface, so the lettering is brown on cream and as crisp as any map we cut; this is the flat map to choose if someone will stand and read it.
English or French
The same map is engraved with all its lettering in either language, chosen above: country names, capitals, ocean names, states and provinces. Everything else is identical.
How it ages, and the one thing to avoid
Bare birch warms over years, drifting from cream toward straw. That happens evenly across the map and reads as age rather than damage.
Direct sunlight is different. It changes the wood where the light falls and not where it does not, and on a map that shows as a visible line across the continents. Keep it off a sunlit wall.
One honest limitation
A decorative object rather than a cartographic instrument. Small countries and island groups are simplified or omitted at this scale, and coastlines are smoothed.
Same wall, different room
Drag the slider – the only thing that changed is the map. No drill, no repainting: it mounts with the double-sided tape that comes in the box

Our craftsmanship
Made by our family, piece by piece
Every creatifwood map starts as a sheet of birch plywood in our family workshop. We cut, sand and finish each piece by hand, check every detail ourselves, and pack it ready to hang on your wall. No production lines, no shortcuts – just a small family that loves working with wood, and takes it personally that your map arrives perfect.

Frequently asked questions
Will the map stick to a textured wall?
Taped maps hold on lightly textured walls; very rough surfaces need extra tape. Framed panels hang from the fixing on the back, whatever the wall
How long does installation take?
A few hours for a 3D map, a couple for a 2D one, an hour or two for a wooden wine map, with the included tape and the template or corner stencils – no tools needed. A framed panel needs none: one fixing, a few minutes. The full routine for every map is on our installation page.
Can I remove it and remount later?
Yes. Warm each piece with a hair dryer and peel it off gently – the wall stays clean. To remount, use fresh adhesive tape; the original tape won't hold a second time. A framed panel simply comes off its hook
What if a piece is missing or broken?
Write to us with a photo and we will send a replacement. Details are on our Missing Pieces page.
