About this product
A savannah in full stride
The lion is cut mid-leap – body at full stretch, front paws reaching – and inside it the layers hold an entire savannah on the move: giraffes and antelope along the horizon, acacia trees, candelabra plants, and a sun over the mountain at the back.
The mane is a separate layer standing proud of the head, so it casts a real shadow onto the face rather than being drawn onto it.
The widest in the range
At 18 × 11 cm it shares the widest format with the stegosaur, and the low horizontal shape suits a mantelpiece or a wide shelf better than a bookcase.
Five layers, glued in sequence.
Yellow is the colour to plan around
A lion needs more yellow than any other design here, and yellow is also what the dry landscape inside wants. Mix it with white for the body and with red for the rocks rather than using it neat throughout, or the pot will run out before the mane is done.
Paint the layers flat before gluing – the herd on the horizon sits deep in the stack, and the mane layer is the one piece that truly cannot be painted once it is glued down over the head. Touch up edges after assembly.
The other safari kit is the elephant – same country, at sunset, with the herd's roles reversed.
