About this product
The building the walls were built around
The Castle is the keep: the place the lords lived, and the structure the Fortification walls and the GateWay exist to protect. Two hundred and ninety-four pieces, and the highest age rating in the range at 12+.
That rating is not about piece count, since the GateWay has more. It is about the vertical build. A castle rises through several storeys, and each course has to sit true before the next goes on, so a mistake three levels down shows up as a lean at the top.
Where the difficulty concentrates
The upper storeys. The lower walls are straightforward courses of interlocking beams; higher up the plan narrows and the corner joints carry more load, which means the fit has to be tight rather than approximately right.
Building on a flat rigid surface matters more here than on any other set. A table with a slight bow in it will show by the fourth course.
The last of the four
The Castle completes the Fortress series, after the Tower at 6+, the walls at 8+ and the gateway at 10+. Assembled together the four form one fortified town, with the castle at the centre of it.

Untreated hardwood, no coating. Notched beams, no glue or tools. Ships at 2.5 kg in a 37 × 30 × 8 cm box – the heaviest set we stock.
