About this product
A lion's head in fine line
A grey-brown board with the grain showing through the stain, and a lion facing forward at the centre, drawn in outline: the face built from small hatched facets, the mane flowing outward in long open strands, a clear margin all round. The line is fine and nothing is filled, so the cover reads as detail rather than as weight.
It is the quietest of our three lions. The hinged Lion burns the same subject dark onto dark wood; the four-ring Lion fills a pale board with it in profile.
Leather spine, strap and stud
Two birch boards joined by a dark leather strip riveted along the edge, six brass rivets on the front, and a leather strap that closes across the front edge on a brass stud. The notebook shuts and stays shut. Inside, a four-ring mechanism holds the block between black card leaves: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.
Who it suits
Someone who wants the animal without the roar: a lion that is drawn rather than declared, on a notebook that closes like a book and reads as a journal. The date line and weekday boxes at the top of every page are there if it becomes one.
Paper and format
100 lined sheets of 80 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week; pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. A5, about 18.5 × 22 cm closed and 4 cm thick, about 610 g.
