About this product
A mane cut as shadow rather than line
A lion's head in profile, facing left, filling most of a pale grey-washed board. The mane is engraved as areas of burnt surface rather than as outline – dark where the laser has cut, pale where the wood is left – so the drawing has weight, and the pale board pushes the dark areas forward hard. It is the boldest cover in the range.
Our other two lions treat the subject differently: the leather-bound Lion is fine outline with a clear margin, the hinged Lion is dark tone on dark wood. One is a detail, one a portrait, this one a statement.
Four open rings
Two birch boards and four rings through the left edge, no hinge and no spine. The book opens completely flat and folds back on itself, a sheet lifts out cleanly, and when the block is full the rings open and a new one goes in. It is the plainest build in the range and the working notebook rather than the keepsake.
Who it suits
Someone who wants the cover to be seen across a desk. The date line and weekday boxes at the top of every page make it a planner as readily as a journal.
Paper and format
100 lined sheets of 80 g/m² paper; pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. A5, about 18.5 × 22 cm closed and 4 cm thick, about 510 g.
