About this product
A landscape rather than a motif
The palest board in the range, close to raw birch, with a whole scene drawn across it in fine line: a wine glass standing on a barrel, a bunch of grapes and vine leaves at the barrel's edge, a village behind with a church spire and trees, vine rows curving over the hill to a second barrel lying on its side, and clouds along the top. It is the one cover in the range that is a picture rather than a symbol.
A pale board is what lets the drawing work. The lines are thin and there are many of them; on a dark stain they would sink into the grain.
The wine notebook
Tasting notes, cellar records, what was opened and with whom – the kind of writing kept for years and looked up later, which is what a notebook with a permanent cover and a replaceable block is built for. The date line and weekday boxes at the top of every page were made for exactly that entry.
It is also the gift for anyone who owns vines, works in wine, or has a summer house somewhere that looks like the picture. It sits in our Around the Wine range beside the wine boxes and the wine maps: same wood, same engraving.
How it is built
The cover is a single sheet of birch plywood, scored along the spine with a row of laser cuts so that it bends like a hinge; closed, the notebook reads as one solid block of wood. Inside, a four-ring mechanism is screwed to the cover – the two screw heads show on the back, beside our CREATIF mark – and holds the block between black card leaves. The rings open: a page lifts out cleanly, and a new block goes in when this one is full.
Paper and format
100 lined sheets of 90 g/m² paper, each page headed with a date line and the days of the week. It takes pencil, ballpoint and fineliner. 18.5 × 22 × 4 cm closed, a little over half a kilo.
