3D Wooden World Map Amber
Warm honey over pale birch – the map that brings its own sunlight
Choosing your map size
Every map is supplied as separate wooden pieces that you arrange on the wall yourself, so the size below is the space the finished map will occupy – not a box or a frame. Measure your wall first, then leave around 20 cm of clear space on each side so the map has room to breathe.
3D wooden world maps
Layered maps: continents stand proud of the wall and cast a real shadow.

Framed panels
Mounted on a solid backing panel, ready to hang. No assembly, single piece.
| Model | Size | Dimensions | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| World map, Multicolor | S | 90 × 60 cm | 4.0 kg |
| World map, Multicolor | M | 110 × 80 cm | 5.0 kg |
| World map, Graphite | M | 110 × 80 cm | 5.0 kg |
| France wine map | — | 65 × 65 cm | 3.5 kg |
| Italy wine map | — | 58 × 65 cm | 3.0 kg |
Framed panels arrive assembled and are noticeably heavier than the piece-by-piece maps, since they include the backing panel.
Three steps before you order
- Measure the free wall. Width and height of the clear area, ignoring furniture that reaches less than 20 cm up the wall.
- Subtract the breathing room. Take off roughly 20 cm from each side. What remains is the largest map that will look comfortable there.
- Check the shape. All our world maps are wider than they are tall, roughly 3:2. A tall narrow wall will suit a smaller size than its height suggests.
Still unsure? Mark the outline on your wall with masking tape before ordering – it takes two minutes and settles the question.
Frequently asked
Is the size the map itself or the packaging?
The map. Boxes are much smaller, since the map ships as separate pieces.
Between two sizes – which should I take?
The larger one. The most common regret we hear is a map that looks smaller on the wall than it did in the box.
What if my wall is textured or painted?
The supplied tape holds on most smooth and lightly textured surfaces. On heavily textured walls, rough plaster or fresh paint (under three weeks old), the bond is weaker – write to us before ordering and we'll advise.
How much does it weigh on the wall?
Between 0.36 kg and 4.5 kg depending on size, spread across many separate pieces, so no single point carries much load. Framed panels are heavier and hang as one piece.

About this product
Honey over pale wood
Amber sits between the pale Light finish and the browns. The base stays close to natural birch, and a warm honey stain is laid over parts of it, so most of the map is pale with individual countries pulled forward in tan and gold. Turkey, Kazakhstan, Libya and Sudan carry the strongest colour; Egypt, Niger and Saudi Arabia stay almost bare.
The wood grain remains visible through the whole thing. On the pale countries you see it directly; on the stained ones it shows through the colour, since the stain deepens the wood rather than covering it.
What being light does on a wall
This is the finish that adds a map to a room without adding weight to it. Pale walls take it easily, and it does not darken a small space the way the browns can. In a room with a lot of white and natural wood it belongs rather than announces itself.
The reverse is also true and worth knowing before you order. Against a very pale wall the contrast is low, and from across a large room the map reads as texture rather than as a distinct object. If you want something that carries a wall on its own, the darker finishes do that better – or give Amber a genuinely dark wall, where the gold glows, which is exactly how we photograph it.
Shadow does the work here
Because the surface is pale and the tonal contrast between countries is modest, the relief is what defines the map. Each continent is stacked from several plies and stands off the wall, and on a light ground those shadows read as clean dark lines around every landmass.
Lighting matters here more than you might expect. Under a lamp to one side the map gains structure and the continents separate sharply; under flat overhead light it softens and flattens. Some people move a lamp after hanging it – it is worth trying before deciding where the map lives.
Engraving on a pale ground
Country names, borders, capitals, US states, Canadian provinces and Australian states are engraved individually. On this finish the laser burns noticeably darker than the surface, so the lettering is as crisp as anything we make – brown text on cream, legible from across a room on almost every country.
If someone is likely to stand in front of the map and read it, this is a finish that supports that.
English or French
The same map is engraved with all its lettering in either language, chosen above: country names, capitals, ocean names, states and provinces. Everything else is identical – the same plies, the same borders, the same accessories.
Think about who will read it rather than where it will hang. If the map is for someone who will stand in front of it and look for places, their own language is the one to choose; if it is chosen for the look, either works.
Ageing, and the one honest warning
Pale wood changes more visibly than dark wood. Birch warms naturally over years, drifting from cream toward straw, and that will happen here whatever you do – evenly, across the whole map, which looks like age rather than damage.
Direct sunlight is different and is the thing to avoid on this finish more than on any other. Sun bleaches the honey stain faster than it warms the bare wood, so a sunlit map loses its contrast: the stained countries drift toward the pale ones and the design flattens. Away from a sunlit wall, dusted dry, it holds.
Amber or Light
They are the two pale finishes and they answer different needs. Light stays within cream, straw and pale greige, and its variation is quiet. Amber introduces deliberate colour, so the countries separate by tone as well as by shadow.
Choose Light if you want the wood itself to be the subject. Choose Amber if you want the map to be readable as a map while staying pale.
One honest limitation
This is a decorative object rather than a cartographic instrument. Small countries and island groups are simplified or omitted at this scale, and coastlines are smoothed. If you need geographic precision, a printed map serves better.
The same map, six ways
Amber is one of six finishes. Light is the palest, cream and straw under a clear coat; Dark is a many-toned warm brown and Chocolate the deepest of the warm family; Graphite leaves the wood tones for slate; and Multicolor mixes every stain in the workshop. The map underneath is the same – only the finish changes. Multicolor is also the only finish cut in a smaller fourth size, S.
Same wall, different room
Drag the slider – the only thing that changed is the map. No drill, no repainting: it mounts with the double-sided tape that comes in the box

Frequently asked questions
Will the map stick to a textured wall?
Taped maps hold on lightly textured walls; very rough surfaces need extra tape. Framed panels hang from the fixing on the back, whatever the wall
How long does installation take?
A few hours for a 3D map, a couple for a 2D one, an hour or two for a wooden wine map, with the included tape and the template or corner stencils – no tools needed. A framed panel needs none: one fixing, a few minutes. The full routine for every map is on our installation page.
Can I remove it and remount later?
Yes. Warm each piece with a hair dryer and peel it off gently – the wall stays clean. To remount, use fresh adhesive tape; the original tape won't hold a second time. A framed panel simply comes off its hook
What if a piece is missing or broken?
Write to us with a photo and we will send a replacement. Details are on our Missing Pieces page.
