3D Wooden World Map Multicolor
Every stain in the workshop on one map – cream to terracotta to slate
Choosing your map size
Every map is supplied as separate wooden pieces that you arrange on the wall yourself, so the size below is the space the finished map will occupy – not a box or a frame. Measure your wall first, then leave around 20 cm of clear space on each side so the map has room to breathe.
3D wooden world maps
Layered maps: continents stand proud of the wall and cast a real shadow.

Framed panels
Mounted on a solid backing panel, ready to hang. No assembly, single piece.
| Model | Size | Dimensions | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| World map, Multicolor | S | 90 × 60 cm | 4.0 kg |
| World map, Multicolor | M | 110 × 80 cm | 5.0 kg |
| World map, Graphite | M | 110 × 80 cm | 5.0 kg |
| France wine map | — | 65 × 65 cm | 3.5 kg |
| Italy wine map | — | 58 × 65 cm | 3.0 kg |
Framed panels arrive assembled and are noticeably heavier than the piece-by-piece maps, since they include the backing panel.
Three steps before you order
- Measure the free wall. Width and height of the clear area, ignoring furniture that reaches less than 20 cm up the wall.
- Subtract the breathing room. Take off roughly 20 cm from each side. What remains is the largest map that will look comfortable there.
- Check the shape. All our world maps are wider than they are tall, roughly 3:2. A tall narrow wall will suit a smaller size than its height suggests.
Still unsure? Mark the outline on your wall with masking tape before ordering – it takes two minutes and settles the question.
Frequently asked
Is the size the map itself or the packaging?
The map. Boxes are much smaller, since the map ships as separate pieces.
Between two sizes – which should I take?
The larger one. The most common regret we hear is a map that looks smaller on the wall than it did in the box.
What if my wall is textured or painted?
The supplied tape holds on most smooth and lightly textured surfaces. On heavily textured walls, rough plaster or fresh paint (under three weeks old), the bond is weaker – write to us before ordering and we'll advise.
How much does it weigh on the wall?
Between 0.36 kg and 4.5 kg depending on size, spread across many separate pieces, so no single point carries much load. Framed panels are heavier and hang as one piece.

About this product
Every neighbour a different wood
Multicolor is the only finish where the countries differ in hue as well as in depth. Alongside the creams and browns of the other maps there is a warm terracotta, a rust red, a cold slate grey and an olive-tinged brown, distributed so that neighbouring countries almost never share a shade. Mauritania is orange-red beside a pale grey Algeria; Niger sits slate against a walnut Nigeria; Sudan is rust against a cream Egypt.
The map is not painted. Every one of those shades is stained wood, so the grain runs through each country and the surface stays matt and open rather than glossy.
Why it is the most legible map we make
Because neighbouring countries almost never repeat a colour, nearly every border is unambiguous without needing the engraved line or the physical step to explain it. On the single-tone finishes you sometimes have to look twice to see where one country ends. Here you almost never do.
That makes it the finish for anyone who will actually use the map – pointing at countries, tracing routes, explaining where somewhere is. It is also the one children read most easily, which is worth knowing if it is going into a family room rather than an office.
The trade-off, stated plainly
Variety is the whole design, and it makes this the busiest object in the range. In a room that already has pattern – patterned rugs, gallery walls, wallpaper, open shelving full of colour – it adds to the load rather than resolving it.
It works best on a plain wall with a fairly quiet room around it, where it becomes the one complicated thing in the space. That is the opposite of the advice for Light or Amber, which need something else in the room to react against.
Relief that has to compete
Each continent is stacked from several plies and stands off the wall. On this finish the shadow is not what separates the countries, since the colour already does that; instead the relief adds a second layer of information on top.
The practical consequence is that this map suffers least from bad lighting. Under flat overhead light, where a monochrome map goes visually dead, this one still reads because the colours carry it.
Engraving across many grounds
Country names, borders, capitals, US states, Canadian provinces and Australian states are engraved individually. Since the backgrounds vary, the lettering does too: crisp and dark on the cream and sand countries, quieter on the terracotta and the slate.
Because the shades alternate constantly across the map, the clearly readable names are spread throughout rather than clustered in one region.
English or French
The same map is engraved with all its lettering in either language, chosen above: country names, capitals, ocean names, states and provinces. Everything else is identical – the same plies, the same borders, the same accessories.
Think about who will read it rather than where it will hang. If the map is for someone who will stand in front of it and look for places, their own language is the one to choose; if it is chosen for the look, either works.
The small one
Multicolor is the only finish offered in a fourth, smaller size alongside the usual three – small enough for a hallway, a child's room or a first flat, and the simplest way into these maps. The same stains, the same layered relief, less wall required.
How it ages
Multiple stains change at slightly different rates, and over years the palette softens as a whole: the reds warm, the greys lose a little of their coldness, the creams drift toward straw. The relationships between countries hold, so it ages as one object.
Direct sunlight remains the risk, and here it is the reds that go first. On a sunlit wall the terracotta countries lose their distinction from the browns, and the map's defining quality – that neighbours almost never repeat – begins to weaken.
Where it sits in the range
If Chocolate is the most restrained finish we make, this is its opposite. Light and Amber let the wood be the subject; Dark and Graphite set a mood with tone. Multicolor is the only one built around usefulness, where the design exists to make the map easier to read. The map underneath is the same – only the finish changes.
One honest limitation
This is a decorative object rather than a cartographic instrument. Small countries and island groups are simplified or omitted at this scale, and coastlines are smoothed. If you need geographic precision, a printed map serves better.
Same wall, different room
Drag the slider – the only thing that changed is the map. No drill, no repainting: it mounts with the double-sided tape that comes in the box

Our craftsmanship
Made by our family, piece by piece
Every creatifwood map starts as a sheet of birch plywood in our family workshop. We cut, sand and finish each piece by hand, check every detail ourselves, and pack it ready to hang on your wall. No production lines, no shortcuts – just a small family that loves working with wood, and takes it personally that your map arrives perfect.

Frequently asked questions
Will the map stick to a textured wall?
Taped maps hold on lightly textured walls; very rough surfaces need extra tape. Framed panels hang from the fixing on the back, whatever the wall
How long does installation take?
A few hours for a 3D map, a couple for a 2D one, an hour or two for a wooden wine map, with the included tape and the template or corner stencils – no tools needed. A framed panel needs none: one fixing, a few minutes. The full routine for every map is on our installation page.
Can I remove it and remount later?
Yes. Warm each piece with a hair dryer and peel it off gently – the wall stays clean. To remount, use fresh adhesive tape; the original tape won't hold a second time. A framed panel simply comes off its hook
What if a piece is missing or broken?
Write to us with a photo and we will send a replacement. Details are on our Missing Pieces page.
